Online Community Purim Carnival

Join us in costume for our online community Purim celebration. Jokes and puns, games and fun, merrymaking for everyone! Find the levity and laughter on Zoom. All ages welcome; programming intended for preschoolers through b'nai mitzvah age.

Schedule Includes

  • 9:30 am Madison community clergy and educators bring their buffoonery and banter live on Zoom

  • 9:45 am Purim Spiel Video by Madison Jewish teens

  • 10:00 am - 10:20 am Fun Carnival Games and Activities (see below for details)

  • 10:30 am - 11:15 am Special Shadow Puppet Workshop (see below for details)

About the Special Shadow Puppet Workshop
Bring the Purim story to life with Daniel Barash of Firelight Shadow Theater. Daniel, a Madison native, will share a shadow puppet version of the Purim Story, teach you how to make your own puppets, and perform with them!

  • All carnival attendees are welcome to attend the special Shadow Puppet Workshop without a kit. The kit is not required to enjoy and have fun at the workshop.

  • If you would like to purchase a Shadow Puppet Kit, please visit https://www.firelightshadowtheater.com. Delivery in time for the workshop on Sunday morning, February 21 is not guaranteed.

Carnival Games and Activities

  • Origami with Beth Israel Center: Bring any size SQUARE of design paper or plain copy paper. Get ready to have fun making folds that turn into beautiful animal creations! (ages 9-13)

  • Fun Purim Activities with Chabad of Madison: (ages 4-7)

  • Party Games with Congregation Shaarei Shamayim: Have fun playing “Never Have I Ever” and a Scavenger Hunt!

  • Cost-ZOOM Party and Trivia with Temple Beth El: Come in your favorite and most creative costume and/or come with your most creative Zoom background OR decorate your space to show your creative space. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best Group (Family) Costume, Punniest Costume, Least Recognizable Costume, Best Throwback Costume, Best Purim Themed Costume, Best Zoom Background, Best Zoom Space, and the Kahoot! winner (all ages)

  • Camp Song Sing-Along with Camp Shalom, a program of the Jewish Federation of Madison (elementary schoolers and families)

  • Video Gaming with Madison Youth Groups: Middle-schoolers are invited to play the online multiplayer social game “Among Us” (ages 12-13)

The Community Purim Carnival, including the cost of each Shadow Puppet Workshop kit, is generously underwritten by the Jewish Federation of Madison, making it free to all participants!
