Education Director

Join us to foster belonging, joy, learning, and purpose with children and students throughout their Jewish education as Education Director for Beth Israel Center. This is an exciting opportunity to build upon the educational programs that exist today and reimagine the programs for the future! 

The core responsibilities of the Education Director include: 

  • Directing the Talmud Torah (Hebrew School) program, grades K-7: development and evaluation of curriculum; selection and development of engaging learning materials for diverse students; hiring, supervising, and mentoring teachers; communicating actively with parents/guardians; building relationships that foster student learning and sense of belonging.  

  • Planning and leading educational and family service on holidays 

  • Identifying further opportunities to engage families through early childhood programming, and maintaining connections to foster further growth in youth programming and Talmud Torah. 

  • Preparing students for B’nei Mitzvah by facilitating tutor and student matches, providing instructional guidance to tutors as needed, supporting students through Dvar Torah research and writing, and supporting and informing families throughout the process. 

  • Collaboratively develop a strategic plan for educational programming from early childhood into adulthood, in partnership with the Rabbi and lay leadership.  

  • Developing program and class budgets in consultation with staff and board members; managing expenses within approved budget; working with staff to coordinate program logistics.  

  • Engaging actively with students and teachers, visiting classes, and providing support to students, faculty, and parents. Participating in community activities and committees as educational representative of Beth Israel Center, in collaboration with the Rabbi.

  • Working closely with the Rabbi, Executive Director, Talmud Torah Committee and staff as a team, align educational goals, resources, event coordination, communications, and marketing efforts. 

We are seeking an individual to dedicate 20 - 30 hours a week as Education Director. During the school year presence during Shabbat, Tuesday & Thursday afternoons and evenings is expected, with more flexibility in hours and schedules throughout the summer months. We offer a competitive salary range starting at $34.00 per hour, up to $52,000 annually based on hours, and possibility for benefits, including professional development support, annual membership, insurance, and time off. 

We are seeking the following experience and qualifications from interested applicants: 

  • Experience with teaching, leading, and coordinating Jewish educational programs and courses

  • Well versed in Jewish life, history, and traditions, including reading and writing Hebrew

  • Ability to build and foster strong relationships with youth enrolled in this program as well as engage as a team player with staff, faculty, volunteer leadership, parents, and students.

  • Ability to support teaching and learning through professional best practices, including ongoing reflection, creativity, and accountability.

  • Ability to be available during Shabbat, Tuesday & Thursday afternoons and evenings, as well as needed to attend other events and meetings.
